Kathryn (NAN) BowenCliveNan Bowen, of Clive, died on Friday, February 17, 2017 at Calvin Community. Nan was born on November 27, 1918 to Arthur Schwaegler and Ruth Kile in Dubuque, Iowa. She moved to Des Moines in 1930, where she graduated from Roosevelt High School and Drake University. At Drake, she met her husband of 59 years, Melvin. Nan worked in government offices during WWII and at Drake University. After her children were grown, she became a DMPS substitute teacher and fourth grade teacher at Woodlawn School. Following retirement, (Nanny) helped care for her grandchildren, while building deep relationships.Nan was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin (2002), and a granddaughter. Nan is survived by her son, Ted Bowen (Carmen), and daughters, Barbara Larson (Gary), Melinda Collins (Jerry), and six grandchildren. Nan's interests were many, but family always came first. She cherished her many close friendships. Nan loved music, playing her organ(s,) and giving programs to groups. She was a member of the Plymouth Chancel Choir, Deacons, Adeline, PEO Chapter JK, Delta Gamma, and Kappa Delta Phi. A Memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 22, at Plymouth Church with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be directed to Plymouth Congregational Church.
