Kari Nelson Obituary

Dec 14, 1961 - Oct 06, 2017

This obituary is administered by:
Kari O. NelsonDeltaKari (Lee) Olsen Nelson passed away peacefully in the evening on Saturday, September 9. She was surrounded by loved ones in her home in Delta, as her courageous battle with breast cancer came to an end.Although she was only 55 years old, she lived a joyful and full life that we should all strive to model. Despite knowing her life was ending, during her final days Kari spoke to all those who came to visit her mostly of how lucky she was - a great example of her truly awesome personality.Kari was born on December 13, 1961, in Nyack, NY to mother and father Judith and (John) Howard Olsen. She graduated from Pearl River High School in 1980. An active community member, Kari enjoyed making pottery and crafts with friends, helping at her kids' school and community events and raising both awareness and money for breast cancer research. She loved music, sunshine, her home and most importantly, her family. She is survived by her husband, Thomas (Squatty) Nelson; sons, Jason (wife Rachel) and Jeffrey Mleczko and Harrison Nelson; daughter, Sophia Nelson; granddaughters, Camilla and Addison Mleczko; father, Howie Olsen; brother, Kurt Olsen; sisters, Lori Will and Jeni Leslie; many nieces and nephews; many extended family members who brought so much good into her life, and a lifetime of friends who she also called family. Kari is predeceased by her mother, Judy Olsen. Kari was very interested in helping to increase awareness and research of the type of cancer she experienced; metastatic cancer: when cancer cells break away from where they first formed, travel through the blood or lymph system, and form new tumors. Anyone interested in contributing towards these efforts should feel free to check out www.metavivor.org. True to her selfless nature, Kari has asked that her body be donated to science and further research in hopes that some good may come from her demise. In lieu of any funeral services, all who loved her are welcome to gather for a celebration of life in her honor to be scheduled some time in the spring. While her family is very sad, we are fortunate to have been showered with so much love during this time of grieving. Mom was grateful to have lived such a full and happy life. She loved this wonderful world and it loved her right back
