June W. WinwardJune 21, 1923 - October 30, 2014June Louise Wynn Winward, 91, passed away peacefully at her home in Chubbuck Idaho on Thursday, October 30, 2014. She was born on June 21, 1923 in Rexburg, Idaho to Paul Richard and Mary Ellen Hemsley Wynn. The eldest of nine children, June grew up in and attended schools in Preston. It was during a high school speech class held in the Oneida Stake Academy Building that she met Leon Winward. (He first gained her attention by tying her shoelaces to her desk.)After June graduated from Preston High School in 1941, their courtship continued at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. On February 12, 1942, (the second anniversary of their first date) June and Leon were sealed for time and eternity in the Logan, Utah LDS temple.June and Leon began their married life in Whitney where Leon ran the family farm. In 1947 they bought their own farm in Meridian, Idaho, where they lived until 1963. After selling the farm, Leon began a successful career as a tool salesman. This career change took the family to Chico, California, and then in 1968 to Great Falls, Montana, and finally in 1975 to Billings, Montana. Leon passed away in 2004, and June moved to Chubbuck, Idaho in order to be closer to family. Six children were born to June and Leon. Loiuse, Richard (Deceased), Beverly, Mark, Carl, and Karen. June was a dedicated wife, mother, and homemaker. Her family has always been her top priority. She devoted countless hours to serving her parents, siblings, children, and grandchildren. The Winward family took time to play as well as to work. Many fun hours were spent playing ball. June was a participant in her younger years, but she eventually became her children's most loyal supporter and cheerleader. She loved to play dominoes and card games (rook, may I, nickel) and passed on her competitive nature to her children. She was an excellent cook who willingly shared her bounty and her talents. Making doughnuts was one of her specialties that she was known for. Besides her cooking skills, she was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and sewing. Many of the people who knew her have been recipients of June's kitchen towels, or shawls. It was vital to June that her posterity realize the value of Hones hard work, the importance of education, the significance of service and develop a love for Jesus Christ. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her entire life. She served in ward and stake positions in Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society. June was a temple worker in the Billings Montana LDS Temple before moving to Chubbuck.
