Judy M. (Gilhousen) Plyler, age 76, of Hiawatha St., in Brookville, PA, passed away unexpectedly as a patient of Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital, on Saturday, November 5, 2016. She was in the loving and watchful presence of her friends and family. Judy was born on January 20, 1940, to the late Paul E. and Jennie M. (Yates) Gilhousen in Knox Dale, PA. She graduated from Brookville High School with the class of 1957. In June of that same year, she married Darrel "Butch" Plyler in Erie, PA, and they spent over 48 years together before his passing on August 27, 2005. Shortly after High School and her wedding, Judy went to work for the Sylvania Plant in Brookville and she stayed with them until it was closed. She then moved on to work for Whitebrook in Brookville until it closed as well. The final job change she made took her to Owens Illinois in Brookville and she worked with them until she retired. Judy was an active member of the Knox Dale United Methodist Church, and she was also a member of the Red Hat Society. She associated with the Brookville Senior Citizens as she went on many bus rides to wherever the destination may have been. She was known for her love of gardening; her flower garden was always beautiful and maintained with care, and her vegetable garden was always lush. She would give away all the food that she grew. Judy loved all animals, but she most especially loved her dog Shady; she gave everything that she could to make sure Shady was comfortable and well cared for. Judy loved the outdoors and during the summer she "lived in her swimming pool" and she looked forward to spending time at the beach. Being around water was her favorite but she also enjoyed other relaxing outdoor activities like mowing grass, picking blueberries and strawberries, and traveling; notably she liked to travel to Florida on family trips. Judy was always trying to keep busy and because of her love of life and people, she made many friends. Judy is survived by 1 son Derek Plyler of Medina, OH; 1 sister-in-law Mary Jane Gilhousen of Knox Dale, PA and by her very loving and endearing companion, Dan Ferringer of Brookville, PA. In addition to her husband and parents, Judy is preceded in death by 1 brother Donald Gilhousen; 1 sister-in-law Roberta Plyler and 1 brother-in-law Robert Plyler. In keeping with Judy's request, there will be no public viewing. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 27, 2016, beginning at 2:00 pm, and officiated by the Rev. Joni Williams at the Knox Dale United Methodist Church. Interment to take place at the Center Hill Cemetery, Knox Twp., PA.
