Judith Sheldon-Valencis, 73, of Plainville, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2016 after a lengthy, courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was the beloved wife of Stanley Valencis. Judith was born on August 19, 1943 in New Britain daughter to the late Edmond and Florence (Rogorzenski) Sims. She graduated from Newington High School and went on to obtain her bachelor's degree in library science. She began her career in early child care as a teacher, helping kids with developmental skills. She was an avid antique collector and a talented artist, being part of local art groups and producing beautiful pieces of art work. Judith was strong in her Christian faith and was a communicant of the Faith Bible Church in Plainville for many years. She enjoyed taking trips, especially to her favorite states of Vermont, Cape Cod, and Florida. Judith will be deeply missed by her entire family and they will always cherish the memories they share together. In addition to her husband, Stan, Judith is survived by her son, Keith Sheldon, of Plainville; her daughter, Susan Sheldon, of Plainville; her brother, Fred Sims and his wife, Peggy, of Cromwell; her sister, Joan Robinson, of New Britain; her sister, Kate Forbes and her husband, Malcolm, of East Hartford; her sister, Marilyn D'Avanzo, of Newington; her step-daughter, Wendy Valencis; her step-grandson, Jack Goralski; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her former husband and father to her children, Donald Sheldon. Judith's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Masonicare Hospice and Hebrew Hospital for the excellent care Judith received. They will forever be grateful for all the support, love, and compassion provided to Judith and the family at the time of need. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 15 from 5 to 7 PM at Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad Street, Plainville. A Service in Celebration of Judith's life will be held on Friday, December 16 at 10 AM at the Faith Bible Church, 168 Unionville Ave, Plainville, CT 06062. Friends and family are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in West Cemetery in Plainville.
