Brasser, Judith E.Judith E. Brasser, age 83 of 1201 Hillcrest Drive, Manitowoc, died Monday, September 12, 2016 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center in Manitowoc.Judith was born on October 24, 1932 in Oostburg, daughter of the late Chester and Gertrude (Lensink) Mentink. She graduated with the class of 1950 from Oostburg High School, and attended Central College in Pella, Iowa. On April 16, 1952, she married Dale Brasser in Oostburg. She graduated from Silver Lake College in 1972 and taught in the Manitowoc Public Schools for 19 years at McKinley, Madison and Jackson Elementary Schools. She retired in 1991 to devote her time to her favorite job, being a grandmother to her seven grandchildren.Judith thoroughly enjoyed the arts; participating as a member of Masquers, the Migratory Players and the Thalia Dramatic Club, serving as a docent at the Rahr-West Museum and traveling to Milwaukee, Chicago and New York with Dale to visit art museums and attend plays. She was also a lifelong gardener, with a love of flowers and an enviable green thumb.Judith was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she served as an Elder, Sunday School Superintendent and teacher and as a member of the Monday Noon Bible Study Group. She also served the community as President of the Manitowoc Jaycettes, Co-President of the Manitowoc AFS Club and as a tutor in the Laubach Literacy Action Program. She is survived by her husband: Dale Brasser, Manitowoc; two sons and daughters-in-law: Dean (Barbara) Brasser, Madison; Robert (Peggy) Brasser, Denver, CO; one daughter and son-in-law: Julee (Timothy) Barnett, Middleton; seven grandchildren: Dr. Andy (Breanna) Brasser, Minneapolis, MN; Kyle (Amanda) Brasser, Minneapolis, MN; Jason Brasser, Chicago; Tyler Barnett, Minneapolis, MN; Molly Brasser, San Francisco, CA; Ben Brasser, Madison; Clayton Barnett, Middleton; three great grandchildren: Lila Brasser; Gavin Brasser; Elsie Brasser; two sisters and brothers-in-law: M. Lee (Kenneth) Simelink, Elizabethton, TN; Linda (Paul) VanderWeele, Oostburg; two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Carl (Kathryn) Brasser, Nashville, TN; Ruth Ann (Donald) Draayers, Oostburg, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother and sister-in-law: Stuart (Eleanor) Mentink.Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church, 502 North 8th Street, Manitowoc. The Rev. Dr. Matthew L. Sauer will officiate. Cremation will follow with burial at a later date in Gibbsville Cemetery.
