RACINE - Joyce Elaine (nee: Petersen) Kister, 82, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Ridgewood Care Center. She was a lifelong resident of Racine, born on March 20, 1929, the daughter of the late William and Margaret (nee: Stapleman) Petersen. Joyce was a 1947 graduate of William Horlick High School. She was united in marriage to William C. Kister on May 14, 1949 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, where she was a lifelong member. She had been employed with Racine Unified School District for 23 years, working as a Matron for children with special needs at Wadewitz Elementary School, prior to her retirement. After her retirement she enjoyed spending many hours with her grandchildren playing, cooking, reading and gardening. Joyce volunteered for many charities and had been active in Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading and working crossword puzzles. Surviving is her husband of 62 years, William; son, James Kister of Appleton; daughters, Peggy (Jay) Moore and Julie (Mark) Celeste all of Racine; grandsons, Matthew Moore, Nathan Kister and Curtis Celeste; granddaughters, Megan (Joe) Grosz, Gretchen (Spencer) Carlson, Laura Moore, Monica Kister and Cheryl Celeste; great Grandchildren, Haydn Amason, Charles Kister, Samantha Kister, Margaret Grosz and Stella Grosz. She is further survived by other relatives and friends. Joyce was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Petersen, sister, Donna Beth and granddaughter, Crystal Rose Celeste. Funeral services will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 725 High St. on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Susan Smith officiating. She will be laid to rest at West Lawn Memorial Park. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Emmanuel Lutheran Church Food Pantry has beeen suggested.
