Josephine Arnone O’Rourke entered her eternal home on August 19, 2020 at the age of 94. Josephine, or Josie as her friends and family knew her, was the daughter of Alphonse and Margaret Arnone of Independence, LA. She lived in New Orleans until relocating to Lafayette, LA, after hurricane Katrina.
Josie enjoyed getting out and was friendly to everyone she met. She would greet workers and cashiers at her favorite grocery stores and loved to check out any new supermarkets that opened up in the city. She could be quite humorous and had a very distinct laugh. Her grandchildren would get a kick out of the way she described all handsome men as a "real Tom Cruise" and she loved Tom Jones & Engelbert Humperdink. Josie had a strong, quiet faith and watched Charles Stanley on Sunday mornings.
As we remember Josie, we find comfort in the words "Death is the last chapter in time, but the first chapter in eternity." She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her.
Josie was preceded in death by her husband, John W. O’Rourke, Sr., her two brothers, Anthony "Tony" Arnone and Peter Arnone and two sons, William “Billy” McCullough and Timothy Patrick O’Rourke.
She is survived by her two sisters, Grace Haro and Mary Vicknair, her children, JoAnn McCullough Schaefer (Ed), Sylvia McCullogh Hare (Joe), John “Johnny” O’Rourke, III and Beverly Ann O’Rourke, 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren,nieces and nephews.
Due to Covid-19 there will not be a formal gathering, but we invite you to express your thoughts, memories or condolences to Josie's family here.
