Joseph G. Romano1921 - 2014Joseph G. Romano, 93, of Kenosha passed away on Monday, Dec. 22, 2014, at St. Joseph's Home.Joseph was born on Sept. 21, 1921, in Kenosha, Wis., the son of the late Fiorino and Maria (Colonnese) Romano.He was educated in the schools of Kenosha: Bain Elementary, Washington Junior High, Kenosha Senior High School graduating in 1940. He attended Boston College & University of Wisconsin- Madison on the G.I. Bill graduating in 1949, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Joe entered the Army Air Force in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army during W.W. II as an airplane and engine mechanic. He served in the 26th Division Infantry and was honorably discharged in Feb. 1946 with a Good Conduct Medal and American Theater Service Ribbon. He was chosen to participate in the Stars & Stripes Honor Flight in May 2014. Joseph married Rose C. Brittelli on Aug. 5, 1950, they were wed for 63 years.Joseph worked at Milwaukee Gas & Light Company, A-P Controls Company, Simmons Company, & in 1956 started his own business, Supreme Keyseat Cutters Company, manufacturing small cutting tools & operated it for 28 years before retiring.Joseph was a member of Mount Carmel Catholic Church & was a former council member. He also was a member of the Italian American Club, Kenosha Senior Center, past president of the Kenosha Public Museum, Charter Member of the Kenosha & Racine Toastmasters Club, having served in all club offices, including Area Governor in Kenosha, was a member of Wisconsin University Engineers Club, Loyal Order of Moose #286, and a member of the KYF & YMCA. Joseph taught round and ballroom dance classes for seniors with his late wife Rose at Lakeview Community Center & the Bryant Center in Racine and the Kenosha Senior Center.He also played trombone in the CYO Band & the Bradford Swing Band. Joe swam and exercised three times weekly, enjoyed dancing of all kinds and teaching, took many land tours and cruises with Rose throughout the world and attended concerts, theatrical performances and museums as often as possible. Survivors include his three children, Marie (Duane) Merkel of South Milwaukee, Wis.; Joseph (Jean-Marie) Romano of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Denise Denslow of Fond du Lac, Wis.; three grandchildren, Anthony Denslow, Adeena Denslow, Julia Romano and a great- granddaughter, Sarena Hyland, two sisters, Lena Stefani and Edith Miles. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister and his wife, Rose.Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 2, 2015 at All Saints Cemetery (South) Chapel from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 a.m. Entombment will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Hospice Alliance, 10220 Prairie Ridge Blvd.; Pleasant Prairie, WI 53158 would be appreciated.
