Joseph "Luj" Lujan, 54, a lifetime resident of Las Vegas, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 at Alta Vista Regional Hospital in Las Vegas.He was born on June 8, 1958, in Las Vegas, to Lucas J. Lujan and Jane C. Lujan.He was a graduate of West Las Vegas High School Class of 1976. He was formerly employed at the West Las Vegas Schools for 15 years. He loved to collect antiques, tools, toys, trading cards, music and movies. He also enjoyed spending time with his sister's puppy, Estrella. He was a Eucharistic Minister of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, an avid West Las Vegas, Oakland Raiders, New York Yankees, and Notre Dame fan. A lifelong Catholic, and member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Julia Chavez; paternal grandparents, Meliton Sr. and Abenicia Lujan; uncle, Armando Lujan; and aunt, Florence Chavez. He is survived by his parents, Lucas and Jane Lujan of Las Vegas; brothers, Leroy and Raymond Lujan; sisters, Joanne Lujan and boyfriend Celestino Trujillo and Joyce Garcia and husband Martin; uncles and aunts, Meliton Lujan Jr., and wife Alice, Lucy Aragon and husband Johnny, Dennis Lujan and wife Mary Jean all of Las Vegas, Gene Lujan Sr. and wife Antonia and Mary Louise Lujan all of Albuquerque, and Josie Sandoval and husband Seferino of Pecos; numerous cousins, other relatives and many friends.Visitation for public will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 11 at Rogers Chapel in Las Vegas. Rosary devotional service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 11 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas. Funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, with Father Douglas Mitchell as celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Las Vegas, with the following serving as casket bearers: Emory Aragon, Dennis Lujan Jr., Lester Aragon, Gerard Lujan, Gene Lujan Jr. and Tony Chavez. Serving as honorary bearers will be all his remaining cousins and friends.
