NEW OXFORD Joseph 'Joe' Anthony Romeo, 91 formerly of Cocoa Beach Fla., and Greenwich, Conn., died on September 27, 2014, at Cross Keys Village, The Brethren Home Community, New Oxford. He was the husband to Ann Romeo, his wife of sixty-eight years. Joe was born on February 9, 1923 in Greenwich, Conn., the son of Giovanni and Maria Rosa Romeo of Reggio-Calabria, Italy. Joe graduated from Greenwich High School, Greenwich, Conn., and The American Art School, New York City. He served in the U.S. Army Eleventh Tactical Air Command Squadron from 1942-1945 as a Communication Specialist and participated in several European Chapter campaigns including the Normandy campaign in 1945. Joe's long and varied professional career included playing drums for his band the 'Don Rogers Trio' swing band, commercial artist/illustrator, Assistant Art Director, NY Graphic Society; owner/operator, J. A. Romeo Lawn Mower and Bicycle Shop. He and Ann operated The Art Shop in Cocoa Beach, FL. in 1978 until their retirement in 2004. Joe was a life member of the VFW post 8896, East Berlin, PA. and The American Legion, Post 400, Cocoa Beach, Fla. In addition to his wife, Joe is survived by three daughters, Toni and her husband Chris Burns, Hanover; JoAnn and her husband Mark Tinney, Freeman, Mo.; Donna Romeo and her husband Celso Martinez, McKinney, Tx.; three grandchildren, Antonia Flynn, Griffin Burns and Ariana Romeo; and two great-grandchildren, Isadora and Loretta Flynn. He was preceded in death by three siblings, Minerva Facchin, Dr. Anthony Romeo, DDS, and Ben Romeo. Joe will be fondly remembered for his many, many talents and his ceaseless devotion to his wife, and great love for his family. His family would like to thank the nurses, aides and staff of the VNA Hospice, Hanover, and the Brethren Home Community, New Oxford, for the countless hours of care and love given to Joe in his last months.
