Jose Celestino Martinez, 84, a longtime resident of Las Vegas, passed away on Monday, June 16, 2014, in Las Vegas.He was born on Aug. 15, 1929, in Gascon to the late Jose Leandro Martinez and Gumecinda Vialpando Martinez.He was united in marriage on Feb. 19, 1955, in Rociada to Mary Louis Rudolph.He served in the United States Army. He worked for the New Mexico State Highway department for 33 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and being outdoors. He also valued time spent with his grandchildren and family. A lifelong Catholic, he was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church.He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Gumecinda Martinez.He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise Martinez of the family home; daughter, Irene Espinoza and husband, Phil, Jr., of Las Vegas; son, Ernest Martinez and wife, Dora, of Las Vegas; grandchildren, Miranda L. Saiz and husband, David, of Albuquerque, Aaron Espinoza of Las Vegas, Melissa Martinez and companion, Marcos of Las Vegas, Nicole Martinez and companion, Reyes, of Albuquerque; great-granddaughters, Hailey A. Saiz, and Brooke K. Saiz of Albuquerque; sisters, Matilda Marquez of Aurora, Colo., Ermelinda Mascarenas of Gascon; several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas.
