HYRUM, Utah - Jon Lyle Gates, 68, of Hyrum, died at home from a heart attack on Friday, Oct. 17, 2008. Jon was born on Oct. 30, 1939, in Los Angeles, Calif., a son of Darrell George and Ila Beth Anderson Gates. His family later moved to Gunnison, Utah. He graduated from Gunnison High School in 1957. Jon married Nelma Marie Jensen in Redmond, Utah, on Sept. 14, 1957. They moved to Logan and he graduated from Utah State University in 1961. After graduation he began working for the State of Utah Fish and Game, and at age 38 he retired from the Division of Wildlife Resources due to health problems. He loved anything to do with hunting and fishing. Although a loner, he had great friends he loved to call and could talk for hours. Jon leaves behind his wife; two children, Lance Lyle (Maria) Gates, Merin Marie Kinikini; also Robert (Bonita) Skiby, who became a part of our family; and five grandchildren, Isabel, Jonah and Emma Kinikini, Houston and Paul (Haley) Cox. Graveside services will be Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. in the Redmond Utah Cemetery, 100 West 500 North. There will be a viewing Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center St. in Logan, and on Wednesday at the Redmond LDS Ward, 310 West 100 North, from noon to 1 p.m. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.allenmortuaries.net.
