John "Jack" Mitchell was unexpectedly taken from us Friday, June 7th, 2019. A native Houstonian, Jack was born November 19th, 1959 to Susan and Todd Mitchell. Growing up, Jack was an outdoorsman with a knack for catching and bringing home new "pets" with his brother Theo. Jack graduated from St. Thomas High School, to later attend Southern Methodist University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in Business Analytics with a minor in Accounting. Having lived in both Houston and Dallas, Jack also considered Dallas a second home. Jack survived by his wife Yvette, his older brother Theo, his two daughters Catherine and Anna Kate, his two stepchildren, Robert and Meagan, and his beloved dog Chief. Jack was a distinguished businessman, with an impressive history in both hedge funds and insurance. A long and tremendous career with HIIG, BP Capital and Frontier, Jack was a strong pillar for any company and a force to be reckoned with. Jack was a natural golfer and an avid fisherman. He enjoyed playing golf at Memorial Park every Saturday afternoon and fishing in Galveston on his boat "Black Jack", in the summertime. He also enjoyed hunting with his daughters and stepchildren every winter.
Jack was a loyal friend, a proud father, a loving husband, and a dedicated family man. He pushed his children to be the best they could be and always told them, "you can be anything you want to be in this world".
A celebration of Jack's life will be held June 12th, 2019, at 5:30 PM in the chapel of The First Presbyterian Church of Houston, with a reception to follow at the Kushnir residence.
