John W. NewlandGREENFIELD: John W. Newland, age 67, of Greenfield, Ohio, passed away on Friday, September 22, 2017 at his home with his wife and daughter at his side.He was born on July 13, 1950 in Ross County, Ohio, the son of Dwight and Betty (Hollar) Newland.He was retired from Ferno-Washington of Wilmington after 30 plus years of service and then he worked for Greenfield Research and Bob & Carl's of Greenfield. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War where he served two tours of duty, with the first tour on the USS Decatur DDG-31 and the second on the USS Basilone DD-824. He was a member of the VFW Post 4736 of Greenfield. He was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, and arrowhead hunting. He was a founding member of the Deer Park Bow Hunters Club and enjoyed sharing and educating his children and grandchildren on anything outdoors.He is survived by his wife, Kathy (Everhart) Newland whom he married on May 23, 1970; one daughter, Joei (Doug) Gill of Greenfield; two grandsons, Johnathan and Jack Gill; one sister, Liz Newland of Chillicothe; two brothers, Dwight "Dike" (Nancy) Newland and Steve (Carrie) Newland both of Chillicothe; one sister-in-law, Wilma (Dennis) McMurry of Bainbridge; four brothers-in-law, Charles (Kim) Everhart of Bainbridge, Robert (Vickie) Everhart, Jeffrey "Bean" Everhart, and Jim Brooks all of Greenfield; numerous, nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends, Archie Barber and Larry Johnson both of Greenfield.He was preceded in death by one son, John Martin; parents, Dwight Newland and Betty (Hollar) Ely; grandparents, John and Hazel Hollar; sister-in-law, Patti Brooks.Funeral service will be 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 27 at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield with Rev. Joe B. Stewart officiating. Cremation will follow.Visitation will be from 3:00 PM Wednesday until time of the service at the funeral home with Veterans Appreciation Service to begin at 7:00 PM.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the McClain Tiger Softball, c/o Merchants National Bank, 117 S.
