John VickersOctober 13, 1942 - January 5, 2017Round Lake, Illinois - John Vickers, 74, longtime resident of Danville and more recently of Round Lake, passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2017, with his sons by his side and his wife holding his hand, at Centegra Hospital in McHenry. A visitation will be from 2-5pm on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at Pape Family Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams Street in Danville. Services will be on Monday, January 9th at 11am at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Danville with Pastor Heidle officiating. Burial will follow in Lutheran Cemetery.John was born on October 13, 1942 in Hoopeston to John and Marjorie (Bell) Vickers, He attended Hoopeston area schools and Hoopeston High School where he was a fantastic sports enthusiast. Following graduation he enlisted in the US Navy, serving on board the USS Lexington, and was part of the Cuban Blockade and was on the first ship to enter into Saigon Waters at the beginning of the Vietnam War. Upon his return he attended Danville Junior College. John worked at Teepak for seventeen years from 1969 to 1986, and later owned his own business for over fifteen years, Design Advantage, where he was a mechanical designer. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, past president of the Danville Engineer's Club, and a fifty-three year member of the Hoopeston American Legion. John was a wonderful husband, father and American Patriot, and was a great friend to all. He was the World's Greatest Cubs fan, all three of his sons' Little League coach, and enjoyed traveling with his wife all over the country to see his son sing opera. John also looked forward to his Annual Fishing Trip with in Southern Illinois with his fishing buddies.John married Karen Oglesby on September 5, 1969 at Trinity Lutheran in Danville, and the two have shared over forty-seven years together. Survivors include his wife Karen; three sons: Shawn Vickers, Eric (Pam) Vickers, and Justin (Mike Wolf) Vickers; a granddaughter: Caitlyn Vickers; a brother: Rick (Peg) Vickers; four aunts, and many dearly loved cousins, nieces and nephews.
