LAURINBURG — Mr. John Thomas "Tommy" Evans, Sr., 80, passed away on March 17, 2014.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. on Thursday at the East Laurinburg Pentecostal Holiness Church officiated by the Rev. Mike Edds and the Rev. Opie Swails. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.
John was born on Nov. 10, 1933, son of the late Danvis and Lona Cole Evans. He retired from Phelps Dodge after many years of dedicated service. He attended the East Laurinburg Pentecostal Holiness Church and Multitudes Church. He enjoyed playing golf, camping, and fishing and loved listening to his scanner. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who truly loved sharing time with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers Danvis "Skeet" Evans and Luther Grant Evans.
He is survived by his wife Naoma Wright Evans of their home in Laurinburg, sons John "Johnny" Evans, Jr. and wife Debbie, Mike Evans and wife Kathy, David Evans and wife Darlene, Timothy Evans, and Don Evans and wife Brandy all of Laurinburg, eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends.
Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. prior to the service on Thursday at the East Laurinburg Pentecostal Holiness Church, 302 Sanford Road, Laurinburg, NC.
