John R. "Jack" Lewis, 68, of 8780 Burlington Turnpike, Towanda, Pa., passed away Monday, Jan. 2, 2017 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa. "Jack" as he was known by family and friends was born on July 18, 1948 in Pittston, Pa., the son of Jack and Rosarie Solano Lewis. He was a graduate of Pittston City High School, class of 1966, and continued his education at Penn State University at Lemon, Pa., where he received his associate degree in civil engineering. Jack was employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation from June of 1968 until retirement in 2003. Jack was a member of the Sons of the American Legion-Towanda Post, Monroeton Gun Club and was a social member of Beirne-Webster VFW Post, Towanda. Jack enjoyed going to Florida for the winter months, playing golf, caring for his yard and gardening.Surviving are his wife, Betty Webster Lewis; step-children, Sheri Weiss of Towanda, Steve Schmeckenbecher and wife Angie of Wysox, Scott Schmeckenbecher and wife Connie of Sheshequin; five step grandchildren; brothers, Robert Lewis and wife Mary Ruth of Pittston, Pa., Thomas Lewis and wife Yvette of Chenango Bridge, N.Y.; sister, Rosarie Musto of Pittston, Pa.; as well as several nieces, nephews and his cat, Jingles.Abiding with Jack's request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions may be directed to Grace Connection, P.O. Box 122, Towanda, PA 18848, in Jack's memory.
