Montevideo Jr., JohnJohn Montevideo Jr., 84, Green Bay, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 9, 2017, at his home with his wife by his side. John was born on February 19, 1933, in Green Bay, WI to John and Catherine Montevideo.John graduated from Central Catholic High School, Green Bay, WI. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1952, was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant and flew F-89 Scorpion aircraft at LADD AFB in Alaska. John achieved rank of 1st Lieutenant and was honorably discharged in 1957. Upon leaving the Air Force, he pursued a career with the Federal Aviation Administration as an air traffic controller at O'Hare field in Chicago. John moved back to Green Bay to be amongst the first air traffic controllers at Austin Straubel airfield where he remained until retirement.On November 30, 1963, John married the love of his life, Geraldeen (Geri) Vande Hei, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. For the next 53 years, they were inseparable. John and Geri devoted their lives to each other and their family. Together they attended their children's events, rarely missed their grandchildren's events, camped and traveled. John and Geri spent a lot of time biking on trails throughout the state. He was very active in the sports of golfing, tennis racquetball, and taught Geri downhill skiing and ice skating.John was a strong, kind, devoted and loving father and husband. He quietly lived his faith every day, by example in his actions and words. His wife, children and grandchildren brought him great joy. In the words of his seven-year old granddaughter, Hayden, speaking for each of his grandchildren, "Grandpa loved his puppy dogs and all animals, poppies in the garden, sudoku and crossword puzzles, car rides, campfires, watching golf, birds, and biking for ice cream."John is survived by his wife, Geri; children: Todd Montevideo (Dawn), Oconto; Teri Ehlinger (John), Green Bay; and Troy Montevideo (Kalin), Sturgeon Bay; grandchildren, Brianna Ehlinger, Maria Ehlinger, Ryan Ehlinger, Johnny Ehlinger, Hayden Montevideo; special nephew, Don Schmitz; sister-in-law, Bernadeen (Ron) Luedke; great-nieces, Dina Doucet, Donette Phillips and Jaime Schule; in addition to many beloved nieces and nephews.John was preceded in death by his father, John Montevideo and mother, Catherine Montevideo; brothers, Stanley and Harry Montevideo; sisters, Ann Sheriff, Viola Rosseau, and Ruth Stengel.Friends may call at St. Joseph Catholic Church, corner of Ninth St. and 12th Ave., from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday.
