John Leslie (Jack) Purcell passed away on April 28th, 2013. Jack was born on December 15, 1925, in Payette, Idaho.He was the oldest child of Leslie Irvin and Hazel Cooper Purcell. Jack graduated from New Plymouth (Idaho) High School in 1943. He served in the army during World War II. He received his B.A. and M.Ed. from the College of Idaho, and taught high school music for a number of years. He married Everell Ann Fallert in 1953. Jack received his Doctorate of Education from Washington State University in 1968. He was a member of the Education Department of his Alma Mater, the College of Idaho, from 1965 to 1969. He then became the Director of Institutional Research and Long Range Planning for Central Washington State College (now CWU), in addition to serving as an adjunct professor for the Education Department. At the time of his retirement, in 1990, Jack was the Assistant Director of Cooperative Education at CWU.Jack was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa Education Fraternity, and was a long time member and past officer of the Masonic Lodge. He was active in Rotary until the time of his death, receiving the "Service Above Self" award in 2002. He had served on the Kittitas County Alcohol Advisory Board, the Community Services Board, and was a consultant to the Idaho Migrant Education Board. Jack was a past member of the Vestry of Grace Episcopal Church, and was a member of the Singing Hills Barbershop Chorus.Jack is survived by his wife of 59 years, Everell, his children Lianne and Kevin (Beverly), and his grandchildren Anna Nelson and Nathan and Katie Purcell. He is also survived by his brother Robert (Angela) Purcell, sister-in-law Helen Fallert, and nieces Debra Purcell, Terry Purcell-Dihel, Robin Purcell-Hill, and Leslie Dowd. He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-mother Hallie Purcell.A funeral service is planned for 2:00p.m., Saturday, May 18th at Grace Episcopal Church. Donations may be made in remembrance of Jack to the Rotary Scholarship Fund or to the Save the Children Foundation.
