LAGRANGE — John L. "Red" Griewank, 87, of LaGrange died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014, at his home. Mr. Griewank moved to LaGrange in 1976 from Elkhart. He was the owner of the Frontier Restaurant in LaGrange from 1976 to 1995. In 1993, he started Dad's Elephant Ears which he continued to operate with his family. Mr. Griewank was a United States Army veteran having served during World War II. He was member of the First United Methodist Church in LaGrange where he sang for many years in the choir. He was also a member of the Meridian Sun Lodge No. 76 F & AM of LaGrange and LaGrange County Shrine Club. He was a former member of the LaGrange Exchange Club, LaGrange Lions Club, and Scottish Rite Valley of Fort Wayne and Mizpah Shrine of Fort Wayne. He was born on Jan. 7, 1927, in Plymouth to Roy and Bessie (Simonton) Griewank. He married Pearl L. Wagoner on Aug. 18, 1945, in Plymouth. She preceded him in death on Sept. 4, 1995. Surviving are a daughter, Beverly and Max Lang of LaGrange; four sons, Michael Griewank of LaGrange, Richard Griewank of Paso Robles, California, Bill and Dianne Griewank of LaGrange, and Donald Griewank of New York City, New York; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Ilene Wieger of Tippecanoe. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Katherine Ward-Aegerater and Gwendolyn Griewank; and a brother, Albert Griewank. Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in LaGrange with Rev. Chris Danielson officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in LaGrange with military rites by American Legion Post No. 215 of LaGrange. Visitation will be Sunday from 1-6 p.m. at Frurip-May Funeral Home in LaGrange. The Meridian Sun Lodge No., 76 F & AM will conduct a Masonic service at 6 p.m. Memorials are to Shriner Hospitals for Children. Condolences may be left at www.fruripmayfuneralhom.com.
