John Stagg, known to some as “Johnny” or “Big John” passed away peacefully on August 5, 2019, at the age of 63. He was surrounded by his all three of his children and listening to Joe Bonamassa.

John was born in Houston, TX on January 9, 1956 to John and Alice Stagg. He attended Chamberlain-Hunt Military Academy and James Madison High School before embarking on a lifelong career in the Oil and Gas industry as an Oil and Gas Procurement Expediter.  

He worked for Litwin/Raytheon from 1978-1999. During those years he relocated to many states throughout the U.S. including Colorado, Washington, Minnesota, and Alaska. Those were just a few places he called home before returning to his hometown of Houston, TX for the remainder of his career. He left Raytheon in 1999 and continued working at various companies in the Oil & Gas industry before retiring in 2017 and settling down in the small town of Weimar, TX.

In his earlier years, John was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, fishing, surfing and floating  the Frio river. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and considered himself a professional hot tubber. He loved guitar instrumental music, watching the Indy 500, and attending drag races. He was a history buff, enjoyed antiquing and learning the historical stories behind various artifacts he came across.

John spent his final years living his dream of getting out of the big city and into the country. He traded corporate life for carefree days soaking in the bubbly while looking out onto a landscape of farmland with nothing in site but cows, a barn, and hens roaming around in his yard. At night he would listen to coyotes howling in the distance while relaxing around his firepit. It was exactly as he wanted it.  

John was a free spirit that loved to share his philosophical views and advice on life. He will be remembered for his love to shoot the breeze with anyone and everyone who would listen. He had a knack for inappropriate one-liners that would give you pause, but always put a smile on your face. John’s willingness to give to those he loved dearly even when it put him in a bind is a testimony to his true generosity and character. He was a beloved father and grandfather that loved his family dearly. His memory will live on through his children and grandchildren and he will be greatly missed.

John is preceded in death by his parents, John and Alice P. Stagg, and his sister Dawn Che’rie. He is survived by his Children, Jennifer Stagg-Perez, Jessica Stagg, Joel Stagg, his grandchildren, Jarron Stagg, Zoey Stagg, Isabella Perez, Aidan Perez, and his beloved dogs Gizmo and Beazley that were always at his side.

John’s wishes were to be cremated without funeral services. A celebration of life will be announced at a future date.
