John E. Dougherty, SR. died on February 29th, 2016 at the age of 94. John was preceded in death by his parents, Jeanette Pauline Cary and Malcolm Stuart Dougherty; wives, Elizabeth (Betty) Culpepper Dougherty and Jean Highfill Dougherty; brothers, Malcolm, Cary, Worden, and sister, Frances. John was born on February 2, 1922, at the Linwood Plantation in Zachary, L.A. He graduated from Louisiana State University and went on to earn his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Michigan. John and Betty married in 1942, came to Los Alamos in 1950. They enjoyed a very full life in Los Alamos, raising a family of four; three sons and a daughter. They were active in their church, Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church, and enjoyed designing and building a summer house in Colo. that is still in the family. John is survived by his sons, John, Jr., Arthur, and Clinton, and daughter, Elizabeth Price (Stephen); step-children, Cary McConnell, Jr., Mary Lintot, and Elizabeth Cary; grandchildren, Annette, Michelle, Austin, Archer, Cary, Erin, Connor, Danny, and Kate; great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Carsen, Alexander, Kennedy, Eleanor, and Liam. The family will have a private celebration at John's home. The public is invited to a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. March 12 at the Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations to the New Mexico chapter of be made in John's name. The family of John E.
