John Anthony MilitelloSt. GeorgeJohn Anthony Militello, age 83, died August 22, 2017, at his home in Saint George, Utah. He was born on October 21, 1933, in Jersey City, New Jersey, where he spent the early years of his life. John married Loraine Wieboldt on April 8, 1967, in Union City, New Jersey; this past April they celebrated fifty years of marriage. Living many years in Parsippany, New Jersey, John and Loraine eventually moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, and then to Saint George and Santa Clara, Utah.A professional pianist, John was a member of the musical group, The Miamians, who toured throughout the United States and Canada. In the mid-fifties, The Miamians recorded the popular tunes, "Call Me A Coward" and "When My Teenage Days Are Through," which were showcased on The Dick Clark Show. John was also an accomplished music arranger. His most notable work was his arrangement and recording of George Gershwin's "Summertime." After the success of The Miamians, John formed his own group called The Johnny Miller Trio. Throughout the decades, the much sought-after Johnny Miller Trio performed at many supper clubs and entertainment venues throughout the New Jersey/New York area. After retiring from the music business, John delved into his life-long passion for food and cooking by working as a chef in Las Vegas, Nevada.John's first love was always his family. He is survived by his wife Loraine, children: Linda Verheyen, Susan Fallon, Diane Schmerber, Virginia Militello, John Militello, Jr., and step-daughter Lori Zinar. Grandchildren: Michelle Pirozzi, Joanne Romano, Christina Georgas, Gregory Joiner, Rosemarie Joiner, Dawn Militello, Nicole Militello, Christopher Cody Strickland, Justin Menner, Keely Schmerber, Griffin Zinar, and Noah Zinar. Great-grandchildren: Vincent Romano and Dominick Pirozzi.John was preceded in death by his mother and father Rosalia and Anthony Militello, daughter Rosalie Militello, and grandson Ryan Menner.Our family would like to offer heart-felt thanks to Dr. Doug Callahan and Katherine, Dr. Carl Hallenborg and Nancy, and Zion's Way Hospice Care for their kind and dedicated care throughout John's illnesses. Love and gratitude to our compassionate daughter/sister/hospice nurse, Susan, who brought peace and dignity to our loved one as he passed into Heaven.John will be interred at Christ Church Episcopal Columbarium, 2000 South Maryland Parkway, Las Vegas, Nevada 89104, where he was a communicant. There will be a service for John at Christ Church Episcopal on Tuesday, September 26, at 11:00 AM, led by Rev. Catherine Gregg, former Rector of Grace Episcopal Church, Saint George, Utah, now a Canon with the Diocese of Nevada.Family and Friends are invited to share condolences online at:
