Jody Irene Cortes, 50, of Newport, Rhode Island, passed away Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Newport Hospital. Born August 6, 1968 in New Bedford, MA, she was the daughter of Eileen (Trott) Stevenson of North Kingstown and the late Antonio Victor Cortes. She leaves her husband Leonard Brown of Newport. Jody also leaves her children Randy Stevenson of Lewiston, ME, Monica Cortes of Middletown and Leonard Brown Stevenson of North Kingstown as well as her grandson Jesus Gonzalez, Jr. Jody is also survived by her brother Robert Cortes and his wife Deborah of Port Charlotte, FL.

Growing up Jody could be found fishing or riding around on dirt bikes. She loved the ocean and every chance she got to swim she would. She had a passion for horses, and loved learning new jumps in the paddocks.

Jody spent most of her life in food and customer service. She loved helping others and putting a smile on someone’s face, even if it was just a stranger. She had a hobby for getting her hands dirty in the garden. A lot of her plants can be seen throughout her house. She enjoyed spending quality time with her godson and grandson. Keeping her boys happy was all that mattered to her.
