Jodine Helen MittermanSept. 26, 1939 - Nov. 24, 2016MICHIGAN CITY - Jodine (Judy) Helen Mittermann of Michigan City, IN passed away with her family by her side on November 24, 2016 at St. Anthonys Hospital in Michigan City, IN after battling complications from a fall at home. Judy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend and colleague loved by many. She will be greatly missed and remembered most for her amazing strength, determination, commitment, and resiliency that she modeled throughout her nursing profession and daily living. She was a woman of ambition with a nurturing spirit, humor, tenacity, and strong will. She taught her children that life's greatest satisfactions and rewards are met by exercising these traits. She will always be remembered by her family for this and for her special apple pies, cookies, treats, meatballs, and delicious homemade food. Judy was born on September 26, 1939 in Iowa City, Iowa to Helen and Dean Blair. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School, Oskaloosa, Iowa (1957), St Joseph College Nursing School in Ottumwa, Iowa (1960), and she later received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of St. Francis. She was a registered nurse for more than thirty years at St. Anthonys Hospital devoting herself to the following positions: Director of Emergency Room Services, Director of 2E, Nursing Instructor at IVY Technical College, Administrative House Supervisor, Director of Utilization Review/Management, and Assistant Director of Nursing Services. Following her service at St. Anthonys, she also worked for seven years as an Administrative Supervisor at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in South Bend, IN. Her passion for the field and commitment to exemplary nursing care are exceptional and evidenced throughout the many positions she held. She married Ken Mittermann, who survives, on August 19, 1961 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Also surviving are her children: Sue (Tim) Beres of LaPorte, IN; Sharon (Jim) Imes of South Bend, IN; and Mike Mittermann of Chicago, IL. Grandchildren include Melanie Beres living in Madrid, Spain; Allie (Rohan) Johnson living in Deerfield, IL; and Sydney and Christian Imes living in South Bend, IN. Her sister, Sandy Greene, survives in Tracy, Iowa. She is preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Dean Blair; her brother, Gerald Blair; and infant daughter Julie Mittermann. Arrangements are being made by Root Funeral Home in Michigan City, IN. Visitation will be on Monday, November 28 from 4-7pm with a brief service following. The family wishes to thank Dr. B.Agarwal and all of the caregivers at St. Anthony Franciscan Hospital in Michigan City, IN, where she received outstanding nursing care. Memorial Contributions may be made to the family to be put toward the dedication of a patient room in her memory at the newly constructed Franciscan Community Hospital, Michigan City, IN, to be opened in 2018.
