Joanne BradleyNaples, FLWest Gouldsboro, MEJoanne Bradley, 85, of West Gouldsboro, Maine and Naples, Florida and formerly of Washington D.C., passed away on October 12, 2016 after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.Joanne was born on August 20, 1931 in Nampa, Idaho to Harold Otto and Diva Annette (McNeely) Freytag. She attended local schools, as well as the College of Idaho and Lewis and Clark College.In 1955, Joanne moved to San Francisco where she became actively involved in politics. She was vice president of the Young Republicans of San Francisco for two years and an elected member of the Central Committee of the city and county of San Francisco. In 1960, she attended the Republican Convention in Chicago, supporting Nelson Rockefeller.Her love of politics brought Joanne to Washington, D.C. in 1963. One of her prouder moments was participating in the March on Washington in August of that year. Joanne met the love of her life, Montgomery Sears Bradley, while working in Washington. They were married at St. John's Episcopal Church in 1965 and shared a lifelong passion for traveling. Joanne's beloved cousin by marriage, Mary Chase, taught her to needle point during her early years in D.C., and Joanne became very talented and gave many beautiful needlepoint gifts to family, especially her grandchildren.In 1984, Joanne founded Bradley & Lowe Travel in Georgetown, and enjoyed many years of sharing her extensive travel knowledge with her clients. Joanne was a longtime member of the Sulgrave Club of Washington. She eventually retired and moved with her husband to Naples, Florida where she became president of the Diplomat Club and an active member of the Naples Yacht Club as well as the Garden Club of Naples. Joanne was an avid reader and cherished her extensive book collection. Joanne's favorite times were the summers she spent with Montgomery and family at their house in West Gouldsboro, Maine. She spent more than fifty summers there, sailing and enjoying time with her friends and family. In her later years, she cherished the three weeks every August that her son, daughter in-law and four grandchildren spent with her in Maine. She shared her love of politics, history and geography with her grandchildren, often quizzing them on U.S. Presidents and state capitals.Joanne was predeceased by her husband of 36 years, Montgomery, in 2001 and her brother Jay Freytag in 1980. She is survived by her son Chase Bradley of East Lyme, Connecticut, daughter-in-law Jean Whalen Bradley and four grandchildren; Drew, Cara, Zachary and Matthew. She is also survived by her sister Judy Schierman of Jerome, Idaho, nephew Joseph Fascilla, nieces Janet Lothspeich and Jessica Funcheon, stepdaughters, Sarah Bradley and Laura Bradley-Pierucci and cousins Nathaniel Bradley and Dodie Perkins………..Funeral Services are private. www.neilanfuneralhome.com.
