Mrs. Joane E. Gross, 81, a resident of Southwoods Assisted Living Community, passed away at 9:26 p.m., on Tuesday, October 18, 2016. Mrs. Gross was born on March 8, 1935, in Tarentum, to the late DeForest and Elanor Berg Smith. She married Richard E. Gross on April 28, 1956. Mr. Gross preceded her in death on August 20, 2001. She was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School in Erie, class of 1953. Following graduation from high school, she worked in Chicago, modeling and working for Kellogg's Cereal. Joane was a former member of Lakeview Country Club in North East and the Union City Country Club ladies Tuesday golf league. "MG" loved spending time with her family and friends, wintering in Naples and Bonita Springs, Fla. with her husband, lifeguarding, swimming, teaching swim classes, cooking, golfing, gardening, painting and horseback riding. Joane is survived by four children, Jeffrey S. Gross and wife Deborah of Pittsburgh, Cynthia D. Friedman and husband Donald of Waterford, Julie M. Simon of Waterford, and David E. Gross of Atlanta, Ga.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Diane Mytenger of Sun Lakes, Ariz. She was preceded in death by a son, Stephen R. Gross and a grandson.
