FORT BARNWELL | Jimmy Parker Davis went to be with the Lord on September 27, 2014. He was 72 years old and resided in Fort Barnwell all his life. He died at Vidant Medical Center after many years of courageous struggle with kidney and heart disease. He was born on June 26, 1942, in Craven County. He is preceeded in death by his parents, Roy Parker Davis and Margaret Frances Jolley Davis. He is survived by brothers, R. Curtis Davis and wife Audrey, Myron "Doc" Davis and wife Helen and Allen W. Davis; and sisters, Geraldine Sutton and Lynda Gaskins. He is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He attended Farm Life School in Vanceboro and graduated in 1960. He entered the U.S. Air Force in June of 1960 and served honorably for four years. He worked as a service representative for Monroe Calculator for several years until he began farming full-time. Jimmy is best known for his love of farming and his incredible knowledge of machinery. After retirement, he continued to receive calls for assistance and advice from other farmers in the area. His second love was Mustangs, a hobby he shared with his brothers and nephews. He was married to Jean Carter Davis, who passed away in 1980. He is survived by his current devoted, loving wife of 31 years, Ann Howle Davis. He has two children, Margaret (Marnie) Elizabeth Carter and husband King, of Waxhaw, and Leo Giles (Gil) Elvington III of Emerald Isle. Grandchildren include Megann E. McKinney and King W. Carter of Waxhaw. He was a member of Fort Barnwell Baptist Church and was affiliated with Tanglewood Church of God through the Cancer Support Group and the Vision Sunday School Class. Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Tuesday evening at Pollock-Best Funeral Home in New Bern. A memorial service will be conducted at Fort Barnwell Baptist Church in Fort Barnwell at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 1. Pastor Allen Stocks of Tanglewood Church of God will officiate, assisted by Pastor Allen Ham of Tanglewood and Pastor Mike Scott of Juniper Chapel Original Free Will Baptist in Vanceboro. The family wishes to thank Vidant Medical Center, Fresenius Medical Care of East Carolina Univerity and ECU Dermatology Services for their tireless dedication to his care.
