YORK Jestine (Duncan) Bowman, 80, transitioned from her earthly home to her heavenly home on Sunday, December 14, 2014. She was the widow of Walter Bowman, Sr. Jestine was born on November 24, 1934 in Clyo, Ga. (Effingham County) to the late(s) Lucy Mae (Young) and Susic Duncan Sr. Jestine enjoyed sewing and crocheting, singing, spending time with her family and she was known for cooking her jelly cakes. She was a former member of Emmanuel COGIC until she joined Unity COGIC; during her tenure at both churches she was an Usher. Jestine leaves to celebrate her memory five sons, Earl Bowman, Walter Bowman, Jr. (Veronica), Dr. Darnell Bowman, P. Daniel Bowman and Jerry Bowman; three daughters, Linda Bowman, Priscilla Bowman and Shirley Green; three sisters, Bessie Ritter, Lue Florence Williams and Nora Duncan, 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; nephews; nieces; cousins; and a host of other family members and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Jestine was preceded in death by four sisters, Lizzie Mae Hill, Catherine Walker, Daisy Irons and Margie Ann McMillan; three brothers, Ulysses Duncan, Sr., Mack Duncan, Sr. and Susic Duncan, Jr.; and a grandson, D. Toby Bowman. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, December 19, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Unity COGIC, 121 Ridge Ave., York with her pastor, Dr. Darnell Bowman, officiating. A viewing will take place the same day from 9 to 11 a.m. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, York. Boulding Mortuary, Inc. is handling arrangements.
