Jesse James Cannon, Jr.Covington, TNJesse James Cannon, Jr. was born on March 22, 1951 to Jesse James Cannon, Sr. and Almeda Oliver in the Douglas Community of Stanton in Haywood County, Tennessee. He departed this life on Tuesday April 18, 2017 ay 9:31am at Methodist North Hospital. He was preceded in death by his biological parents, Jesse and Almeda (Oliver) Cannon, loving stepmothers, Martha (Blakemore) Cannon and Lelah (Cotton) Cannon, his brother, Earnold Cannon, and his sisters, Dorothy Tuggle and Luvenia Boyd. Jesse James attended Haywood High School, University of Tennessee-Martin, and University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine in Memphis. He was a Kappa Alpha Psi Charter Member Initiate of Zeta Kappa Chapter 1971, a Lifetime member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., member of the Jackson Alumni Chapter. He won the South Central Province Brother of the Year Award in 2016.First and foremost, he was passionate about his Christianity. He was proud to be a member of the Church of Christ. Dr. Cannon placed an extremely high value on family and the ties that unite us. Spending time with his grandson Dallas made his later years worthwhile despite his recent health. He enjoyed mentoring the youth and changing the lives of countless individuals for the betterment of society as a whole. He was also passionate about politics, community involvement, and personal accountability. Dr. Cannon was known by his patients and colleagues for his compassion, diagnostic skills, and exceptional bedside manner.He married his best friend Maurine Dickerson on June 10, 1973 in Haywood County Tennessee. For forty-three years, they experienced the type of relationship that goes into making a loving family. Left to cherish his memories are his devoted wife Maurine (Dickerson) Cannon of Covington; his three loving children, Andre' of Memphis, Jayson of Memphis, and Jessica of Covington; three special god-children, Wesley (LaFonda) Somerville of Atlanta, GA; Countess (Reco) Lawrence of Memphis, and Rodney Robinson of Covington; one grandson, Dallas of Memphis; four brothers, James (Charlotte) Greer of Memphis, Robert (Lorraine) Cannon of Toledo, OH, Carl Cannon of Memphis and Terrance (Joyce) Cannon of Stanton; six sisters, Berdie (Fred) Lee of Memphis, Sallie Jones of Brownsville, Brenda (Rodney) Dancy-Jarrett of Stanton, Beverly (Reggie) Lattimore of Arlington, TN; Almeda (Nelson) Luster of Memphis, Patricia (Randy) Patton of Franklin, TN; and a host of extended family, friends, colleagues, church members. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 22 at the Munford Baptist Church with a visitation at the church from 9 a.m. until service time on Saturday. Burial will take place in Fredonia Memorial Gardens in Mason. Calling hours will be from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, April 21 at the Covington Funeral Home with family hours from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friends may sign an online guestbook at www.covingtonfuneralhome.com.
