Jerry L. Foland76, of Paducah, KY, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 30, 2017 at the Lourdes Hospice Center in Paducah. He was born on September 30, 1940 in Whitewater, WI; son of Reuben Glenn and Lula E. (Fritts) Foland. He grew up and attended school, where his parents taught, in Speedway, IN. Class of 1958.He proudly served our country in the
U.S. Navy for 8 years spending most of his time on the USS Enterprise. After being honorably discharged, he accepted employment with the Westinghouse Nuclear Division. He enjoyed a long career as a senior field engineer, specializing in nuclear instrumentation and rod control for power plant start up and maintenance. His career allowed many family moves to various states and multiple travels to over a dozen countries. He retired in Cleburne, TX in 1998 and then moved to Paducah, KY in 2007He was preceded in the death by his brother, Michael Foland. He is survived by his two daughters; Terri Widner (Wade) of Lake in the Hills, IL, Colleen Wood of Indianapolis, IN, his son, Jerry (Chip) Foland ll of Rapid City, SD. Grandchildren, Alexander Wood, Hunter Wood, Tyler Foland, Summer Foland; great grandson; Cam Gille and cousin, Sandra (Larry) Stowell.Jerry was an incredibly intelligent man who enjoyed an active life of many interests including his love for electronics, woodworking and Amateur Ham Radio. He was an active member with many radio clubs in various states, memorably known as WA4TTL. Most actively involved with the Amateur Radio Association in Paducah, where he also enjoyed membership in
VFW and American Legion.His presence will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends but his legacy remains within all who had the pleasure to know and learn from him.Arrangements have been made with Conkle Funeral Home, Speedway Chapel on Friday, July 7, 2017. Visitation 11 a.m.; Service 1:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest at Washington Park North Cemetery. A memorial dinner in Paducah, KY will take place at a later date.Donations can be sent to the Paducah Amateur Radio Association W4NJA or the Ray & Kay Eckstein Regional Cancer Care Center in Paducah in Jerry's name.
