Jeffrey “Jeff” Robert O’Brien Sr. passed away at home in Petaluma, CA on June 16, 2015, at the age of 68.
Jeff was born in San Francisco on July 23, 1946 to the late Eileen and Robert O’Brien. Jeff attended Washington High School and San Francisco State University. He met his wife Valsy on a blind date in San Francisco, and they were married a year later. Together they moved to the New York/New Jersey area, and lived there for 3 years, before returning to the Bay Area. He studied for his Master’s of Divinity at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in Mill Valley, CA. Jeff worked as a Supervisor at Golden Gate Transit until his retirement. Jeff and Valsy moved to Tucson, AZ in 2001 and spent 9 years there (where he was known as the Desert Rat), before returning to Petaluma to be near family.
Jeff is survived by his wife of almost 46 years; his brother and sister-in-law, Anthony and Cindy O’Brien, and his 3 nephews; his daughter Jennifer Coello; his son Jeff O’Brien Jr.; their spouses; his 3 granddaughters, 1 grandson, and 1 grandchild on the way. Jeff loved warm weather, reading books (especially mystery novels), talking about sports, and spending time with his grandchildren. He also loved being a deacon at Petaluma Valley Baptist Church, and missed his time greeting and handing out bulletins when his health prohibited such.
