Jeffrey Richard RabbitoDanbury, CTJeffrey Richard Rabbito, 27, passed away January 4, 2017 at his temporary residence in Danbury, CT. He was born on June 28, 1989 to Frank and Mary Kay (Norman) Rabbito. He grew up in Port Jefferson, NY and attended Comsewogue High school and also Gulf Coast High School after his family moved to Naples in July 2005 on a permanent basis. Jeff entered the US
Army at the age of 18 and was discharged Honorably on April 11, 2011 after spending three years of devoted service. During his military service, he received the Iraq Campaign Badge with 2 Stars, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War On Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, & Combat Action Badge. Jeff was a dedicated soldier whose job also included that of Armor Crewman and eventually a sniper. The latter position took a heavy toll on him after his discharge causing him great mental anguish. This anguish caused him to become 100+ disabled determined by the US Army, where he would have continued to receive a lifetime disability pension. Unable to work he decided to attend college at Hodges University in Naples, FL and was scheduled to continue his studies in Connecticut on the day of his untimely passing in an attempt to become a productive member of society.Jeff became a dad to Christina Rabbito whose birthday was January 6th. He was a wonderful dad and although his daughter was not in his life full on a fulltime basis, he made sure that she knew she was loved and was well taken care of in all aspects. Jeff's smile, laughter and quick wit will be missed by all who knew him. He was the first person to help someone in need and was an absolutely wonderful son, brother, father, uncle, nephew, and cousin.Jeff is survived by his father, Frank Rabbito of Naples, FL, his daughter Christina, El Centro, CA, his brother Frank, of Stony Brook, NY, his brother Anthony (Jennifer) of Bonita Springs, FL, along with his Godfather, Godmother, nephew, aunts, and cousins.Jeff was preceded in death by his sister Antoinette Freda Rabbito, on August 21, 1975, all grandparents, and his mother, Mary Kay Rabbito, on September 5, 2014. His mom's passing took an additional toll on his already fragile mental state, but he was still able to deliver the most heartfelt eulogy at her funeral service wherein he expressed in beautiful terms how much his mom influenced his life, how she was his best friend, and how he looked forward to meeting her again in heaven. Jeff and his mom were very close and it was something he could never get over and his wish has now become a reality, but too soon. He is now safe in her arms, loved, protected and in a place where his fears, anguish, and pain no longer exist. He is surrounded by all who passed before him and he is again happy as he was as a little boy.Visitation will be at Hodges Funeral Home, 525 11th Avenue, Naples, FL 34108 on Friday, January 13, 2017, 12-2PM with a mass next door at St. John the Evangelist Church beginning at 2PM, followed by full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any
Veterans Service entity that assists those vets returning home and suffering from PTSD and other military service related illness.
