Jean Parker West, 80, passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Harris Hospice following an illness. She was born on December 18, 1935 in Kershaw County, South Carolina to the late Carolyn McKain Murray. Jean graduated from Duke University School of Nursing and was an RN for many years. Jean grew up with her future husband Fred E. West Jr. in Camden, S.C. They were married in 1958. She loved to read, play bridge, work crossword puzzles, and spend time with her family and her cat Earle. Jean volunteered for Meals on Wheels, was a member of Sharon Presbyterian Church, and had been a resident of Sharon Towers since 2003. Jean is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Fred Earle West Jr and her sister Linda Holland. She is survived by her three sons, David Parrish West of Atlanta, Fred E. West III (Tripp) of Nashville, and Andrew Glenn West of Charlotte. She was the proud grandmother of Taylor Davis West, Olivia Parker West and Parrish Kawika West. She is also survived by her nephew, Lee Smith; nieces, Wynne Smith, Sharon Holland and Jacquelyn Nesbitt and sister in law, Judy Smith (Sonny). A graveside service will be held at 2:00 on Sunday, October 23, 2016 in the Columbarium at Sharon Presbyterian Church, 5201 Sharon Road, Charlotte NC, 28210.In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jean's memory may be made to the Humane Society of Charlotte, 2700 Toomey Ave, Charlotte, NC 28203.Arrangements are in the care of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service; please share online condolences at hankinsandwhittington.com.
