Jean GirzLorain: Jean Cecilia Yeager Girz died peacefully on Sept. 29 with her family at her side. She was born on August 24, 1924, to Bertha (Traunero) and Carl Yeager, Sr., in Fremont, Ohio. She was a graduate of Fremont St. Joseph's High School, and of Notre Dame College of Ohio in Cleveland, where she earned a BS in dietetics in 1945. She married Joseph J. Girz in Fremont in 1948. They lived in Cleveland, before moving to Lorain in 1952.Jean was an ardent member of her profession and her community. She was a Registered Dietician working at hospitals in Cincinnati, Cleveland, Lorain, Amherst, and at Avon Oaks Nursing Home. Jean taught nutrition and child development at St. Joseph Hospital LPN school in Lorain for 25 years before retiring. She was a member of the Ohio Dietetic Association, the Lorain County Dietetic Association, and the Auxiliary of the Lorain County Society of Professional Engineers for which she served in various officer roles. Jean was a devout parishioner of St. Peter's Catholic Church serving as a Eucharistic Minister and a long-time member of the choir. She was a champion collector of things.Jean is survived by her five children: Cecilia Girz (Army Armstrong), Barbara Girz (Bruce Mintz), Teresa Girz-Kiedrowski, Thomas Girz (Kim Dehler Girz), and Martha Girz (David Smith), sixteen grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Bill (Mary) Yeager, four nephews, and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband (Joseph Girz), her brothers Tom and Jack Yeager, and her grandson Sean Griffith.Viewing and life celebration will be Monday, October 2, 2017 4-8 pm at Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst Ohio 44001. Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday, October 3, 2017 12:30 at St Peter Catholic Church, 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. Rev. Father Craig Hovanec, Pastor, will officiate.
