Janet N. Dane, age 71, of Van­­derbilt died Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at McReynolds Hall in Gaylord­. Janet was born on Dec. 30, 1941, in Detroit to Jesse and Ruth (Haas) Shaw. She married Leland Dane on Sept. 8, 1962. Janet worked for the predecessors of Independent Bank for a number of years, as well as the Hale Area Schools. She and her husband moved to Vanderbilt after her retirement in 2003.Janet was very involved with the Gaylord Area Council of Arts, as well as being a member of the Northern Michigan Artists Guild. She liked to paint, garden, enjoyed photography and especially liked to spend time in the Pigeon River Forest.She is survived by her husband, Leland; daughter, Linda (Jerry) Fick of Wyoming, Mich.; grandchildren, Jesse and Shannon Fick; brother, Ralph "Skip" Shaw of Hale; and sister, Judy (Lloyd) Simms of Vanderbilt. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ruth Cook; and brother, Ronald Shaw.A private life celebration will be held at a later date.Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Northern Michigan Artists Guild or the Gaylord Area Council of the Arts through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O.
