Jane Marie YoungOkemosJane Young left us for a better place on March 4, 2017 at the age of 77.  Jane was born on August 9, 1939 in Deerfield Township, Michigan.  Her ambition was to become a teacher.  After 2 years at Eastern Michigan, she realized her goal by becoming a middle school teacher in Argentine, Michigan.  She taught there for 4 years while completing her bachelor's degree.  She followed that with stints at Grand Blanc, Plymouth and Okemos, Michigan over a 30 year teaching career.  She spent the last 20 years at Kinawa Middle School in Okemos.  She was a demanding teacher who always gave students her best effort and expected the same.  She loved what she did and was always thrilled when one of her students had success.  She was so happy to be a mother and grandmother.  She loved children because "they are the future".  She was also an avid golfer.  At the apex of her golfing career, she was in 3 golf leagues over a summer.Jane is survived by her husband of 52 years, Gerald Young, their twin children, Robert and Rebecca Young (Donald Bachand) and grandchildren Amanda and Matthew Bachand.  Jane was the oldest of 15 children.  Survivors include Linda Wirrick, Winifred (Kenneth) McFarland, Jerry (Sally) Bennett, Susan (John) Austin, Carol Bennett, Rebecca (John) Faulkner, Harold (Roseanne) Bennett, Hollis Bennett, Mary Jo Bennett, Joseph (Caryn) Bennett, Mark (Alice) Bennett and numerous nieces and nephews.  Preceding her in death were her parents, Joseph and Winifred Bennett, brothers Thomas, Robert and Matthew Bennett, and sister-in-law Paula Bennett.Visitation will be held at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home on Grand River in East Lansing on Friday March 10, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00.  A private burial will be at 10:30 on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at St. Augustine Cemetery.  Family and friends are invited to a memorial luncheon from 1:00 to 3:00 at the Eagle Eye Golf Club, 15500 Chandler Road, East Lansing, Michigan.  The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, East Chapel.
