ELIDA — James David Sweeney 78, died at 2:50 PM on Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at his residence in Elida, Ohio. James was born on October 28, 1938, in Lima, Ohio, to the late John Sweeney and Margaret (Claypool) Sweeney.
He graduated for Lima Central Catholic in 1958. He served in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1979 and had been around the world 3 times. James operated Sweeney Cleaning Company after he retired. He was a member of the Lima Eagles Aerie #371 and VFW Post 1275. He was a fan of Notre Dame and Ohio State University.
He is survived by a sister, Patricia Allen, of Elida, OH and a brother, John (Nancy) Sweeney, of VA; and nine nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Conn and a sister and brother-in-law Mary (Larry) Shaw.
Interment of ashes will be in Dayton National Cemetery, Dayton Ohio at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Rita's Hospital. Condolences may be expressed at www.chamberlainhuckeriede.com
