SmithYorkJames K. Smith, 89, passed away on Monday October 2, 2017 at the York Hospital. He was the husband of Eleanor J. (Snykus) Smith. They were married for 60 years. James was born on August 8, 1928 in York. Son of the late Nettie (Heilman) and John E. Smith Sr.He retired in 1985 from Caterpillar, Inc. as a planning processor and previously worked at the Naval Ordinance Plant.He was a U.S.
Armyveteran of the
Korean War. He was a life member of the Hawks Gunning Club and Pleasureville American Legion Post 799. He was a 1949 graduate of William Penn Senior High School and a member of Boy Scout Troop 37, becoming the first scout to obtain the rank of Eagle Scout in the troop.The viewing will be held from 9-10 a.m. Friday October 6, 2017 at the John W. Keffer Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc. 902 Mt. Rose Ave. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. with Deacon Neil Crispo officiating. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.In addition to his wife, James is also survived by a daughter, Julie Hall, wife of Thomas, of York. Two grandchildren, Kelly Ann Hall and Michael James Hall. He was preceded in death by a brother, John E. Smith, Jr.; and a sister, Deloris Buck.Memorial contributions may be made to the York County SPCA, 3159 Susquehanna Trail North, York PA 17406 or to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2935 Kingston Rd.
