TOWANDA-McWilliams, James Rodney "Rod" 90, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2016 at his home. Visitation 6-8 p.m. Thursday, August 4, 2016, at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta. Service 10 a.m. Friday, August 5, 2016, at Towanda United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Towanda Cemetery. Rod was born on September 24, 1925 in Oil Hill, KS, to the late John Cleveland and Nellie Beatrice (Stewart) McWilliams. He married Nora Gene (Pyle) on December 13, 1948 in Wichita, KS. Rod served in the U.S. Army as Corporal from 1943-1946, 45th Infantry. Rod was proudly self-employed throughout his life. In the early 1950's, he ran a farm in Raymondville, TX, in the 1960's, he worked for Southwest Valve, a valve repair business, and in 1967, he established a sales territory and distributorship in south central Kansas for the Interstate Batteries Company, which is still familly owned and operated today. He and Nora Gene owned a small mountain lodge called Singing River Ranch in Questa, NM where many family and friends enjoyed spending time. He enjoyed bird hunting and watching sporting events. He cared deeply for his family, and his community. He was a member of the Towanda United Methodist Church and was a member of the Kansas Freemasons, receiving his 65 year membership honor from the Mystic Tie Lodge in Augusta. Surviving family includes: wife, Nora Gene McWilliams of the home; son, Michael McWilliams and wife, Brenda of Towanda, KS; daughter, Debbie Wilson and husband, Jimmie of Towanda, KS; son, John "Rocky" McWilliams and wife, Beverly of Benton, KS; 7 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, one sister, and two grandchildren. Memorial donations to , or Towanda United Methodist Church.
