May 13, 1932 - September 24, 2016 James "Jim" Raymond Marlatt peacefully passed with his family by his side on September 24, 2016, at Arcadia Methodist Hospital at the age of 84. Jim is survived by his wife of 60 years, Norma; and children Michael (Donna) and Joan; and grandchildren Jennifer and Jimmy Kingston. Jim was born on May 13, 1932 in Los Angeles. He attended Catholic schools and graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1950. He then served two years in the Navy on a destroyer during the Korean War. After honorably serving in the Navy, he returned to his native city and continued his education, graduating from UCLA. He subsequently undertook graduate studies at Cal State Los Angeles and USC. Jim met his future wife, Norma, while attending college and working as a bouncer at a skating rink. They were wed in 1956, and had a wonderful and lengthy marriage. Jim was Director of Management Services at Cedar Sinai Medical Center and as a Management Analyst for the County of Los Angeles Office of Education. He retired in 1992, but remained active in leadership roles in a number of community and civic organizations. Jim had an outgoing personality and enjoyed giving back to the community. During his years at the Office of Education, he annually served as the Master of Ceremonies for the holiday party. Even after his retirement, he continued to serve as Master of Ceremonies. He also organized an annual reunion of his shipmates from the USS Sproston that occurred around the country. He was a volunteer at the Wellness Community and was selected by the Board as the volunteer of the decade. Jim was appointed to the Pasadena Human Services Commission, where he served as Chair and Commissioner. In 2010, he was appointed to the Committee handling the redistricting of the City of Pasadena. He was also a Stephen Minister. Jim was an avid sports fan, especially UCLA athletics and the Dodgers. A Memorial service is scheduled for October 8, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at the Sierra Madre Congregational Church, located at 170 West Sierra Madre Blvd., Sierra Madre, CA 91024. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jim's life.
