Kemp, James "Jay" Milton James "Jay" Milton Kemp, age 92, of Payson, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2017 in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born on October 26, 1924 to the late Carroll and Marie Kemp in San Diego, CA. Jay was a Parachute Rigger in the
US Navy during
WWII in the South Pacific. While living in Hollywood, Jay worked at ABC studios as an actor and singer. After some medical problems changed his career path, he relocated to Phoenix to attend the Kachina School of Art. Working at the Phoenix Theatre, he met his future wife, Carol Walker. On August 8, 1952 he married Carol Marie Walker in Phoenix. Jay was a member of the Payson Art League, Arizona Artist Guild, NAGS and the Payson Area Writers Society. He enjoyed art and was exceptionally talented in most mediums. Jay worked in television production, helping to create such shows as the Wallace & Ladmo Show, Romper Room, and Mr. Five. Jay is survived by his loving daughter, Shirley (Bill) Wren; Jennifer Doty; his loving companion, Phyllis Sales; two grandchildren, Jim (Jessica) Wren and Jennifer (Ed Slisky) Wren; six great grandchildren, Jayson, Jaxon, Jordyn, Chase, Travis, and Jemma Wren; and many other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Carol; daughter Carol; three brothers; and two sisters. He will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife, Carol, at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona on Friday February 24, 2017 at 1030am.
