Haban, JamesJames Haban, 92 of Appleton, WI, was called to his heavenly home on November 16, 2016. He was born on September 11, 1924 to Magdalene (Bradac) and Frank Haban in Wallace, Michigan. He attended 9 Mile School on Hwy 577 in Menominee. In 1944, he was drafted into the Army and proudly served his country in
World War II. He spoke fondly of his Army days and loved recounting stories for his grandchildren, especially the one about "the luger". He was baptized and confirmed in May 1961 at Christ Lutheran Church after meeting his wife, Yolanda (Nelson). The two were married on October 8, 1960 and made their home in Menominee, MI. Together, they raised three girls. He taught them an amazing work ethic and love of our Savior. He retired from Kimberly Clark (then Scott Paper) in Marinette on April 12, 1990. After Yolanda's passing, he moved to Brookdale Senior living in Appleton, WI to be closer to his girls. Jim served for many years as an usher and a member of the church council at Christ Lutheran Church of Menominee. He enjoyed woodworking, nature and the outdoors. He and Yolanda restored the stain glass windows at Christ Lutheran. He indulged her love of art and together they built a craft business that took them to numerous juried art shows. His love for polka music and dancing was displayed joyfully at each daughter's wedding. Jim is survived by his daughters, Heidi (Scott) Bork of Neenah, Holly (Anthony III) Kubek of Appleton, and Heather (Bryan) Sevier of Apex, NC; grandchildren Spencer and Carson Bork; Anthony IV, Benjamin, Jack and Kurt Kubek, and Grant and McKenzie Sevier; his sister Alice Shepp; brother and sister-in-law Edward and Elaine Haban; brother and sister-in-law Robert and Charmis Ott and many cherished nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law Chester and Hannah Nelson; wife Yolanda; sister Rose; a brother, Arthur and his wife Doris; a brother Edwin, and his wife Helen and brother-in- law Richard Shepp. Services will be held Saturday, December 3, 2016, at Christ Lutheran Church, in Menominee. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. with funeral to follow at 11 a.m. The Rev. Paul Cole will officiate.Hansen-Onion-Martell funeral home is assisting the family.The family wishes to thank the compassionate and caring staff at Brookdale Senior Living and Heartland Hospice, especially Jessica, Amy, Christine, Leanne and Elma.
