James G. WhelchelJames Glen Whelchel, 74, of Lafayette, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2017.He was born on August 15, 1942 in Lebanon, IN to the late James W. and Mary Glennrose (Gayer) Whelchel.James graduated from Lebanon High School and went on to attend
Purdue University. In June of 1962, he enlisted in the United States Army and served until May of 1965.In 1982, he married Bonnie (Millington) Clark in Lafayette; she survives.James worked for Don Stine Service and Supply as the Office Manager for 32 years before retiring.He was a member of Federated Church in West Lafayette and had been a youth worker years ago. James enjoyed spending time with his church family, volunteering with the Civic Theatre and Chancel Players, and playing on the computer.Surviving with his wife, Bonnie S. Whelchel are his children, Everett Clark, Margaret (Kevin) Dyer, John (Penny) Clark, Melissa (Javier) Mantha, Rebecca (Keith) Hanthorn, and Nancy (Donald) Suter. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his grandchildren, Michael, Elenor, and Richard.Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Federated Church (2400 Sycamore Lane, West Lafayette) with a Memorial Service following at 11 a.m.Memorial donations may be made to Federated Church Memorial Fund in loving memory of James.
