ROCKPORT – James L. Boyer Sr. passed away at his residence with his loving family by his side on Nov. 10, 2016.James was born on Sept. 10, 1939, in Newburgh to the late Bona Cleveland Boyer and Mary L. (Hall) Boyer.James was a graduated of Luce Twp. High School (Richland) in 1957, where he lettered in 4 different sports, one of the greatest all around sports man that ever left Luce High School, went to University of Evansville played varsity football as a freshman, join the Army in 1959 did his basic at Fort Knox, Ky., then Fort Sill, Okla., before being sent to Germany, he played Army football while serving in Europe. After returning to the United States he worked as a Mill Rite for Lloyd's Machine Shop in Owensboro, Ky., later he worked at Alcoa for 27 years; he supervised and was responsible for the Mechanical, Building Maintenance, Truck Shop and Roll Shop Apprenticeships. Served 4 terms on the South Spencer School Board Trustee, was also on the South Spencer Vocational Board for several years, was on the South Spencer Scholarship Committee, James also was a graduate of Military Leadership Academy in Bad Tolz, Germany, served in various leadership roles for 10 different educational facilities such as I.S.U., area high schools and vocational boards in Indianapolis and Kentucky. James has a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Technology and a Master's Degree in Human Resource Development. Member of Hatfield United Methodist Church, a Past Master and member of the Eureka Masonic Lodge 397, member of the Evansville Shrine and Scottish Rite, Eastern Star.James is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Bettye Sue Padgett and great-great-grandson, Gabriel Gordon.James is survived by his wife, Betty (Wangler) Boyer, son, James Louis Boyer Jr. of Destin, Fla.; daughter, Teresa (Grady) Gordon of Newburgh; grandchildren, Ashley (Chad) Mascenik, Levi (Meagan) Gordon, Meghan (Matt); great-great-grandchildren, Stephanie Currier-Mascenik, Kaitlyn Kinder, Lorelei Gordon, Addison Mascenik and Ayden Kinder. Services are 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 14, at Boultinghouse Funeral Home Rockport, with Pastor David Cotton officiating. Burial is in James Parker Cemetery.Masonic services were Sunday Nov. 13, at Boultinghouse Funeral Home.
