James "Jimbo" Berry Jr.Hattiesburg, MSHattiesburg and the University of Southern Mississippi suffered a deep loss this week with the unexpected passing of James "Jimbo" Berry, Jr. Jimbo died in Troy, Alabama on Sunday, March 26, 2017.Jimbo was born on September 2, 1958 in Panama City, Florida. His mother Virginia Dolder (Dick Dolder) is a retired educator living in Gainesville, Florida. Jimbo's father James Sr. is a Southern Miss hall of fame member inducted in 2013. Jimbo is survived by his siblings Gigi Harvey (Robbie Harvey) of Hattiesburg, Louis Berry (Holli Bery) of Windermere, Florida and Barbara Berry (Bill Nettleton) of Gainesville, Florida.In 2003 THE SOUTHERNER named Jimbo USM's Top Fan. Coach Jeff Bower described Jimbo: "I wish we had 10,000 more Jimbo's...he is definitely a piece of work!"Jimbo took his passion for sports and The University of Southern Mississippi and created a business with his wife of 32 years Pam Higgason Berry. Jimbo's Catering specialized in preparing homestyle meals and desserts for teams before and after games. Jim and Pam provided more than just food for the teams. Being served by Jimbo was an experience of southern hospitality, sports trivia, and flavorful local tales.Jimbo leaves behind four children and eight grandchildren: Christy Sumerall (Daisy, Hunter, Remington) James Berry III, Matthew Berry (Mckynzie) and Jessica Fullen (Tyler and Tristen Redman, Madison and Bryson Fullen). Jim had the charisma and caring to make you feel you were the center of his universe when you were with him. Jim was at home and always his authentic and unique self with his extended family, friends, community members, and university coaches, staff, and students. He will be deeply missed by us all.Jimbo is preceded in death by Sue and Wilbur James and Albert Dewey and Pearl Berry.A celebration of Jimbo's life will be held at Grace Temple Church 1131 Richburg Road, Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Visitation will be from 3:00-4:00 with the service immediately following.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the savings account of Pam Berry at Regions Bank.
