James Alan Buck, 61, passed away after a short battle with cancer on November 12, 2016, in Sherman, Texas, the town he loved. He passed peacefully at home, surrounded by his family. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 16th at 11 a.m. at Waldo Funeral Home, 619 N. Travis in Sherman. His brother-in-law, Ken Fulk will officiate. Burial will follow the memorial service at the Van Alstyne Cemetery, 177 E. Jefferson Street, Van Alstyne, Texas.Alan was born on October 25, 1955 in Sherman, Texas, to the late James Leslie Buck and Wanda (Bowman) Buck. Being the oldest of three siblings, his early years were filled with boyhood adventures, and setting a good example for his younger brothers. Alan graduated from Sherman High School in 1974, and began his career as an electrician and an industrial mechanic. He worked at various manufacturing plants in the greater Sherman area for over 40 years, always garnering the respect and admiration of his coworkers for his methodical, determined approach to any challenge. He always loved to solve problems and enjoyed working with his hands, and he freely shared his skills with any friend, neighbor, or family member in need.He married the love of his life, Cindy (Roberts) Buck, on February 4, 1978 and they had two beautiful daughters. He is survived by his wife, Cindy; his daughter Jamie and her husband Murray Millson; his daughter Ashley and her husband Michael Oates; his mother Wanda Buck; his brother Charles Buck and wife Donetta; his brother David Buck; and many others in his large, loving family.Alan cared most about his family, and was a pillar of honesty, humility and fortitude. With his strong values, his unwavering commitment, and his deep bond with his family members, he grew from a fun-loving young man into the strong backbone of his family. He loved to play golf (by the rules), watch college and NFL football, travel with his family, listen to classic rock, and play a good game of poker with friends. Alan lived a full life and was so proud of "his Girls".Alan wore many hats in his life but the one that he loved best said "DAD" on it. What a wonderful son, husband and Dad he was - Daddy, we all love you and will miss you immensely. The register book can be signed online at waldofuneralhome.com.
