One of Plantersville's most respected and beloved citizens, Jacques Earnest "Jack" Wuichet, 84, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday morning, Oct. 24, 2016 at his home after an extended illness. A native of Monroe, Louisiana, Jack was born on December 21, l932 to Willie Walker Wuichet and Frances McCormick Wuichet. He married Frances Issac Wuichet on July 2, l954 in Dunn, LA. To this union was born 4 children who loved and respected their daddy very much. Jack led an interesting and involved life. He began his working career in a furniture factory and was a Union Organizer and affiliated with labor union movements all his life. He was a 20 year member of the United Steel Workers. He and his family moved to Plantersville from Swartz, LA in l973 and immediately "fit in" and became contributing, involved citizens. A staunch Democrat, Jack loved political campaigns and upheld the labor movement positions with passion and intelligence. He was elected to the Plantersville Board of Aldermen in l997 and served until retiring in 2013. He took literally his public service and was a "hand's on" alderman. Jack was a giving person and loved children. He devoted untold hours to the Town Park and its revitalization. The Town eventually named the Park, the Grant-Wuichet Park to honor his contributions. Known far and wide as the "Can Man", Jack, at his own expense, for over 20 years, collected and sold tin cans to benefit the causes of the Town of Plantersville. Over the years, he received numerous awards for his volunteer work and in 2007, the Mississippi Municipal Association granted he and the Town of Plantersville their "Excellence Award for Community Spirit" for his contributions to the good of all mankind. He also won the President's Volunteer Service Award. A faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Plantersville, Jack enjoyed people, public service, his family and all causes related to the "working man." Thanks Jack, for a life well lived. Rest from your labors for your work is not in vain. A celebration of his life will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 27, 2016 at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Danny Balint officiating. The eulogy will be delivered by Rep. Steve Holland. Private burial will follow at Plantersville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 PM-8PM today (Wed.) at the Tupelo Chapel.Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Frances Wuichet of Plantersville; one son, Jackie Wuichet (Debbi) of Tupelo; three daughters, Rhonda Morgan (Harry), and Elizabeth "Liz" Bouchillon (Jamey), all of Plantersville, and Robbie Robison (Robin) of Senatobia; nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; special friends, Floyd Glenn (Betty) of Swartz, LA, Erskine Barton of Pontotoc, and Danny Johnson of Fulton. He was preceded in death by his parents.Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law. Honorary pallbearers will be the C.L.
