1921-2016 Jack Wood Bixby “Captain Jack”, 95, retired teacher, of Wallingford, Pa., died peacefully on November 24, 2016. He was a former resident of Norwood, Pa. He was born on January 26, 1921 in Eldred, Pa., the son of R. Lee Bixby and Ava Wood Bixby. Jack was a graduate of Mt. Jewett, Pa. High School in 1938. He graduated from Clarion State College and also did graduate work at Temple University. He was a proud veteran of
World War II serving in North Africa, India, and Okinawa in the Army Air Corps. A dedicated teacher and administrator, he taught at Eddystone High School where he coached basketball. He became Assistant Principal at Interboro High School and then Prinicpal at Interboro Junior High School. He ended his career at Interboro School District in 1983, after serving 17 years as Assistant Superintendent. He lived in Norwood, Pa. where he served on the Borough Council and also served as its President. A long time member of Norwood United Methodist Church, he was a Cub Master and Scout Master of Troop 250. He served in many other capacities throughout the years as well. Preceded in death was his loving wife of 65 years, Vern, and his two sons, Wynn Bixby (surviving wife Barbara) and Marshall Bixby (survivng wife Laurel); and his two brothers, Bill and Dick. Surviving are his sons, Jack, Jr. (husband of Jan) and James (husband of Joyce); his four grandchildren, Wyatt (Sabrina), Stephanie (Greg), Kelly, and Shane (Erica); and his great-grandchildren, Matthew, Nia, and Maylin. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 3rd, at 11 A.M. at the Norwood United Methodist Church, 315 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074 A visitation time will be on Saturday from 9:30 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the church. His burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions made in Jack’s memory to the Norwood United Methodist Church, 315 Chester Pike, Norwood, Pa. 19074 would be greatly appreciated.
